Bukit Aman will probe further over 90 reports of misuse of MyKad during polling day for the six-state elections. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the reports were made when voters discovered that their MyKad was used by someone else to vote. The IGP had said it involved using other people’s MyKad when casting votes, which is an offence under Section 7 of the Election Offences Act.
“Selangor recorded the highest number of cases with 48 cases, followed by Penang (20), Terengganu and Kedah (nine each), Negri Sembilan (six) and Kelantan (two). The coalition has called on the Election Commission (EC), Home Ministry and the National Registration Department to probe these cases. “The misuse of identity cards and impersonation to vote in elections is a serious offence because this has denied real voters their right to vote, as well as affecting the integrity of the electoral roll and the conduct of the election itself. “Using another person’s identity to vote is an offence under Section 3(1)(l) and Section 7 of the Election Offences Act,” Bersih added.

As a responsible Malaysian, we should do our parts well during the state polls according to the laws and the most importantly is that we must show the other respect and be respectful to their privacy but not simply misuse people’s Mykad which is a terrible behavior that assaults privacy and human rights of the other.
