Imagine if you are a shepherd and when you happen to found out that one of your sheep is infected with one non-spreadable virus. What would you do? You have 2 options. Option 1 is to find out the ill sheep and slaughter it. Option 2 is to kill all the sheep. If you have decided to find of the ill sheep rather than to kill all of the sheep, you are subconsciously applying the concept of presumption of innocence.
What is the Presumption of Innocence?
Presumption of innocence a legal concept where one is presumed to be innocent unless proven guilty by the court. The one who is alleges the crime has the burden to prove that the other individual committed the crime. Therefore, this concept itself protects individual who is a suspect to a crime and not the one who commits the crime.
For example, if your friend is accusing you for stealing his/her pen, is it fair for you to prove that you didn’t steal the pen or is it fair for your friend to prove that you steal his pen? The answer here is obvious.
From here we can see is that this legal concept protects the right of the individual where everyone has the benefit of the doubt and this concept does not only apply in court when it also applies in real life where people giving one another the benefit of the doubt where there is mutual trust among each other.
