Updates With Regards To Online Proceeding in High Court

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, most of our daily activities are to be digitalised such as more and more small medium enterprise are using e-wallets as an alternative of using cash, to sell their products online instead of having physical stores. 

This is good in a way that businesses are somewhat ‘forced’ to be adapted to the current situation and modernization. Our Court system has also following the current situation and pandemic, adapted the online proceeding for Lawyers to handle their case via online platform.

Starting from 4 May 2020, High Court online proceeding may be heard for the following cases such as:-

  • If the Parties apply to it (interlocutory appeals, uncontested interlocutory, contested interlocutory (brief and short) & appeal to Judge in Chambers;
  • Delivery of decision 
  • Mediation matters 

Few things to take note the online Video Conferencing:-

*Please ensure that your computer/laptop are compatible to the requirement set out in Circular 124/2020.

Before:

  • Court will notify via email at least 3 days before the actual date about the details
  • Only e-filed documents will be referred
  • If the Client wish to join the conference, please make an early application to the Judge.

During:

  • Around 30 minutes before the scheduled time, there will be a reminder from the Court via email/telephone to the lawyer;
  • Invitation issued via Skype for Business
  • Before the actual proceedings, there will be a trial run
  • Courtroom & Court video conferencing etiquette to be observed
  • The proceeding will be recorded.

After:

  • Judge may fix a next hearing date or decision date via online video conferencing, e-Review or any other manner
  • The order/ Judgment given is to be filed via e-filling.
